Eva Horská & Jakub Horský | All That We Have
09/10/26–17/01/27

curator: Petra Příkazská | White Cube

The exhibition All That We Have, named after a painting by Stanislav Diviš, presents a cross-section of works by Eva Horská and Jakub Horský and offers an overview of a broad range of printmaking techniques and book printing. The title reflects a positivist view of a world that responds to chaos through the museum practices of collecting and cataloguing. The exhibition is a kind of housecleaning as the artists prepare to move their entire workshop to Martínkovice near Broumov, where they plan on becoming “barn-based printers” who combine a fading past with the potential offered by new methods and materials.

The series of several hundred small prints provided the artists with a grand opportunity to test the possibilities of their chosen technique, as well as their own skills and experience. Covered in a regular grid, the wall’s arrhythmic patterns evoke a cryptic, undeciphered text. Equally cryptic are the books by the typographer and printer Jakub Horský, in which he has transcribed birdsong into the Latin alphabet to create playful dictionaries of quasi-words. The vibrantly coloured drapes by illustrator Eva Horská, meanwhile, resemble the pages of a book that one can walk through, letting oneself be literally caught up in a world of colour and light without seeking a rational explanation or meaning.

Besides a love for nature, the artists also share a childlike playfulness, the joy of experimentation and the sense of wonder at a work of art that is always at least partly the product of chance. All these are things that Jakub and Eva Horský would like to pass on – not only through their own work, but also through the workshops they organize.

EVA HORSKÁ (b. 1981), graphic artist, illustrator and designer, studied textiles and sculpture at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, during which time she did a year-long study exchange in the graphic design studio at EINA in Barcelona. She draws inspiration for her work from nature, the legacy of the avant-garde and the contrast of unmixed colours. She works with a range of materials and hand-printing techniques. Her work typically combines a playful subject matter with a flat graphic stylization. Thanks to her instantly recognizable style, she has become a sought-after illustrator (nominations for the Magnesia Litera and Czech Grand Design awards, among others), while also designing interior elements and visual applications for spatial environments. She has also designed card games, books, and album covers, and she did the wallpaper design for the children’s section at the library in Broumov (2025).

JAKUB HORSKÝ (b. 1987), typographer and graphic designer, began his studies at the University of Hradec Králové (graphic design and multimedia), followed by the Atelier of Paper and Book Design at Brno University of Technology’s Faculty of Fine Arts. He earned his doctorate degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Ústí nad Labem, where he focused on interpreting and updating book printing and other classical printing methods within the context of contemporary visual design. In fact, this combination of the traditional and modern is the driving force behind his work. His books and structural prints reflect a deep sense for nature and a penchant the forgotten corners of history. He is the author of the book No 1 | P=F/S: tisk z výšky / knihtisk / Letterpress ve 21. století (2016).

The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Statutory City of Hradec Králové.
